Corrosion Resistance of Creep Graphite Cast Iron with Different Alloy Contents

Abstract

The work aims to compare the corrosion resistance of vermicular graphite cast iron with different alloy contents in different media. The electrochemical corrosion performance of three different types of vermicular graphite cast iron with different copper and tin contents in engine antifreeze at pH 9.0 was studied from a microscopic perspective according to the electrochemical testing methods. The corrosion resistance of the three types of vermicular graphite cast iron was studied from a macroscopic perspective by high-temperature reaction kettle tests and neutral salt spray tests. As a result, under alkaline antifreeze medium, with the increase of copper and tin alloy content, the self-corrosion current and corrosion rate of vermicular graphite cast iron gradually decreased, and the corrosion resistance of the material showed a good trend. However, in the macroscopic high-temperature reactor, there was no significant difference in the corrosion resistance of the three materials. The corrosion resistance and variation patterns of ductile iron with three alloy contents in the neutral salt spray medium were not significantly different. In conclusion, on a microscopic level, the corrosion resistance of vermicular graphite cast iron with high copper and tin content is relatively good. On a macroscopic level, the corrosion resistance of vermicular graphite cast iron with three alloy contents is consistent. In engineering applications, the macroscopic corrosion resistance performance of the material is more practically significant.
